Episode 7: THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION with John Rocha

The Shawshank Redemption

Good morning, friends!

I hope this post finds you well and that you 2018 is off to an excellent start. After last week's episode of SENDING THE WOLFE with Miri Jedekin took us to the frozen terror located inside The Overlook Hotel, we just so happen to be switching things up a bit but not straying too far from our Stephen King roots and hopping over to Shawshank Prison to explore THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION with Collider Video host and personality John Rocha.

As you will hear on the pod, I had never seen this movie before and that was on purpose. But if ever there were a good time to take the plunge, I knew it would be with Rocha. I've said on social media (and it's true), this episode is a perfect example of what I hoped this podcast could be: the movie is the jumping off point for a much deeper discussion about life and love, success and failure, and a lot of other personal things in between. We talk about this movie being named a "new classic" by a generation who couldn't escape it on basic cable, what a "man movie" is, and what it's like to watch a film about a group of men in prison that was made in 1994 for the first time in 2017.

When I started this show, I hoped that by connecting to my guests through film, we'd get an insight into the personal. But I also hoped that by unpacking what is considered a "classic," there would be spirited discussion from multiple points of view that would allow us to consider interpretations we had never thought of before. This episode accomplishes all of those things and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

As always, please consider subscribing to SENDING THE WOLFE on your podcast app of choice and rating / reviewing. There's also a Patreon page where you can contribute anywhere from $1 - $50 a month to support the show and get access to mini-episodes that come out every Thursday, video content, prizes and more. Thank you for listening!

xx, Clarke.
